Matt Schneider is the owner of the Forward Movement Training Center (FMTC) located in Meridian, Idaho. The FMTC is a 25,000sf advanced tactical and self-defense training center with many unique qualities and training options not found anywhere else within the State of Idaho as well as most western states. Training courses at the FMTC surround real world incidents such as home invasions, vehicle abductions, robbery, active shooter, and much more. Each course is designed to give participants real world training on how to protect themselves and others should they be involved in a violent situation.
Matt first entered into his law enforcement career in September 2001 at the age of 19. Following his graduation from the police academy, Matt continued his college education earning his Bachelors of Science in Psychology.
Matt was hired as a sworn deputy sheriff by the Ada County Sheriffs Office in Boise, Idaho in January 2006. During his time with the ACSO, Matt has held numerous positions to include; Detention Deputy, Patrol Deputy, Street Crimes Unit, Task Force Officer (TFO) with the US Marshals Office Violent Fugitive Task Force, Undercover Narcotics Detective, and spent five years as an Entry Team Operator on the Ada Metro SWAT Team.
Jason Laase has 11 years of experience as a Sworn Police Officer working for a major Law Enforcement Agency in the Metropolitan area of Los Angeles, California. During his time as a Police Officer, Jason worked many assignments which included: Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, S.W.A.T. Team Operator, Manager & Supervisor of the Explorer Unit, School Resource Officer, Community Policing Officer, Downtown Policing Officer (Retail Crime), Special Enforcement Detail, and he held a temporary assignment as a Detective in the Crimes Against Persons Unit.
Jason is a recognized expert and trainer in tactical operations and was an agency instructor at his former Police Department. As a 6 year member of the elite Special Weapons and Tactics Team (S.W.A.T.), Jason was one of the go to Instructors for S.W.A.T. Tactics during regular training sessions as well as during S.W.A.T. Schools. He taught S.W.A.T. Operators, Patrol Officers and Police Explorers. Some of the training topics included S.W.A.T. Tactics, Building Entry & Searches, Perimeter Set-up & Searches, Firearms Safety, Weapons Manipulation and Crowd Control Techniques. In addition to earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in Vocational Arts and a teaching credential in Adult Learning Concepts, he was also a P.O.S.T. Certified Instructor of Arrest and Control Techniques, Defensive Tactics, Chemical Agents, Noise Flash Diversionary Devices (NFD’s), and Shoot House Operations.
Early on in Jason’s career he was awarded the Medal of Valor from his Agency and the Medal of Heroism from the Golden Badge Foundation of California for his Courage Under Fire. Jason was involved in the largest gun battle in his Department’s history and received the citations for his role in saving the lives of innocent citizens. That incident lasted for over four hours with the suspect firing over 650 rounds at Officers and civilians. During his tenure, Jason was part of a Special React Team that was tasked with supporting the United States Secret Service (Presidential Protection Detail) with the protection of President Barack Obama during a visit to Southern California in 2010.
Jason’s passion for firearms and tactics has been in the making for over 20 years. Growing up, Jason spent his summers, holidays, and weekends working closely with his father who owns a respected gun store in Southern California.
Jessica Farrias is an accomplished defensive tactics leader. She became an instructor after attending numerous tactical defensive operations courses in the military. As a instructor Jessica leads, manages and supervises courses in Active Shooter, Combatives/Self Defense, Shoot Move Communicate (SMC), Force on Force, Tactical Vehicle Mount and Dismount Movements, Close Quarters Battle (CQB) or Tactical Drills, Security of Convoy Response Movements, Self-Aid Life Saving Procedures, Less Than Lethal Weapons and Fitness Instructor.
Throughout her career in the military she has conduct multiple convoy missions. She also was one of the youngest enlisted members to become part of inspection team having to evaluate the compliance and effectiveness of personnel. She has continued to further her military career as a patrol officer by being an instructor for high stress and realistic scenarios designed to teach personnel how to effectively move through potentially hostile environments. Having to control and secure against the threat of hostile forces, she has been awarded multiple awards for her distinguished mission accomplishments and continues to thrive as a defensive tactics instructor.
Denny Smith served as a sworn Deputy Sheriff for 16 years, retiring from the Ada County Sheriff's Office in February 2015. Denny worked for the Jail and Court Services Bureau and was a member of the Special Response Team (SRT), conducted numerous high risk transports, and was a POST Certified Police Firearms Instructor.
Denny started his career with the Idaho Department of Corrections in 1985. As a member of the Correctional Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) and working in a variety of posts including Outside Patrol, Transports, and Death Row. Denny achieved his Distinguished Expert from The NRA as a Certified NRA Police Firearms Instructor and completed both the Ruger and Mossberg Armorer courses, serving as a Rangemaster, Firearms Instructor, and Armorer for the I.D.O.C. Denny competed in the Idaho Police Revolver League for several years, winning two state revolver titles as well as 7 medals in the Police Olympics.
Eric Aitken comes to FMT with 13 years of law enforcement experience. He started his career with the Cascade Police Department in 2000 where he became certified as a Drug Recognition Evaluator. He was later assigned as the School Resource Officer as worked closely with the Cascade School District. In 2005 he moved to Nevada and joined a major police department in the greater Las Vegas Metropolitan area. He was assigned to Patrol, later becoming a Field Training Officer and then assigned to the department’s Training Bureau where he was tasked with training Patrol Officers, Detectives, Corrections Officers, and Civilian Volunteers.
During Eric's time as a Police Officer he was able to obtain numerous instructor certifications such as Master TASER Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, and EVOC Instructor (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course) just to name a few. He was an integral part of a team tasked with developing the departments VirTra Simulator training program. He was heavily involved in re-developing the departments Explorer Program. That program prepared youth from the ages of 14 to 20 who were interested in a career in Law Enforcement. This also included getting the young adults ready for Explorer tactical competitions in California, Arizona and Southern Nevada. Eric was also involved in teaching several classes at the Southern Desert Regional Police Academy which included TASER, EVOC and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. Eric's experience as a Trainer, Mentor, and Teacher as well as his knowledge of case law, use of force, and firearms tactics is a valuable asset to the training at FMT.
Dave Rieker served 23 years in the U.S. Air Force, starting out as an F-15C Tactical Aircraft Crew Chief and six years later cross-training into Security Police. Dave has deployed several times overseas and has traveled around the globe on temporary duty assignments. He has worked Dispatch, Security Response Team/Patrol, Law Enforcement Patrol, Physical Security, Training, Logistics, Protective Services, Antiterrorism and as a Field Supervisor.
While assigned to Protective Services, he conducted joint operations with the US Secret Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, US Dept. of State, US Dept. of Homeland Security, US Air Force Office of Special Investigations and several Saudi Arabian Police agencies. Dave also worked for 5 years as a Deputy Sheriff at the Ada County Jail.

Craig McCarroll is an accomplished high threat security specialist with extensive experience as a protection team leader and lead Reconnaissance instructor in the Marines. Craig specializes in threat assessment, surveillance patrol, and counter surveillance operations along with the operation, maintenance, and qualification of multiple weapon systems.
As a Marine Security Operations Specialist, Craig served in all aspects of Reconnaissance, ending as a team leader. He instructed, mentored and graduated over 1000 Reconnaissance Marines. After eight years of honorable military service, Craig became a US Navy instructor and Range Safety officer, teaching breaching, Vessel Board Search and Seizure (VBSS), and shooting techniques to Navy personnel.
Craig currently provides low and/or high profile individual protection to US government personnel and designees at designated locations overseas in hostile threat environments.
Craig’s knowledge, skills, and experience offer valuable talent to anyone interested in learning all aspects of weapons handling and marksmanship.

Richard served 8 years as a United States Marine. He instructed The Marine Corps Boxing Team in Hawaii during his enlistment. His military occupation was Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting. After his enlistment he worked as an Emergency Communication Specialist in Idaho which involved working with The Dept. Of Homeland Security activating Amber Alerts, rural ambulances, life-flight, and handling 911 calls. He discovered through his job experience that the best line of defense is yourself in most situations.
Richard saw a segment of Commando Krav Maga on The Discovery channel TV show: Human Weapon in 2009. This inspired him to become a certified instructor. After a background check and interview with the Chief Instructor, Moni Aisik, Richard was accepted into the CKM Instructor Course and trained by one of Moni's Elite Team Instructors. With Moni's advice to have a mindset of an "empty cup" Richard passed at the top of his class. Since then he has had the privilege to be trained personally by Mr. Aisik along with the best of Moni's Elite Team Instructors. Richard strives to provide the best quality training to all students in Commando Krav Maga.
Caleb has been involved in the Martial Arts scene for the past 20 years with 14 years of that as an instructor. Caleb holds a 4th degree Black Belt in an art created by the acclaimed David German, known as Transitional Arts Incorporated or TAI. Caleb has taken the tenets of TAI (versatile movement transitions, always adapting to new information, constantly learning and growing) and applies them to his training courses at FMT which include; escapes, boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, weapon defense, practical self-defense and free flow technique training.

Caleb is incredibly talented and well versed in the art of self-defense. Come meet Caleb and talk about your personal self-defense goals. Classes consist of women’s only, One on One, and general training. Classes are offered for a single day or ongoing weekly instruction.
Jim Fuller served 22 years in the British Royal Marine Commandos before retiring and relocated to the Boise, Idaho. Jim has deployed on numerous operations around the world as a team commander, protection team commander, patrol base commander and fire support commander. Jim is trained in all aspects from infantry to vehicle tactics in the Arctic, jungle, mountains and desert environments. He was a military instructor in infantry tactics, land navigation, small arms to heavy weapons and service rifle coach. Jim is trained as a Risk Assessor, Combat Team Medic, Trauma Risk Management Practitioner, training Coach and Mentor. He is also a Range Safety Officer and Live Firing Tactical Trainer, which in his military career planned and conducted some high level range packages, such as the Unit’s Fire Support live firing pre-deployment training before the Unit deploying on operations. Jim spent 5 months working with the Experimental Division of the USMC in California training Marines before they deployed to Afghanistan.
Jason comes to FMT with a military background. He entered into the service after September 11th, 2001 and from there, he spent almost 10 years as a medic with the Special Operational Forces. He has trained in everything the military had to offer and in several different environments. Jason also has deployed to numerous locations around the world to include Iraq.
During his time in the service, Jason developed an extensive combat/medical/tactical background, earned several awards/accommodations, and held many leadership roles. With his medical background, Jason earned his Combat Medic Badge and has performed everything from physical fitness to minor surgery. He also held a Paramedic certification which is nationally recognized. Jason’s knowledge and background make him a valuable asset to anyone interested in learning all aspects from the medical/tactical world.
Frank Jarvis has over 20 years of experience as a Sworn Peace Officer, working for a rural Nevada Law Enforcement Agency prior to retiring and relocating to Idaho. During his career, Frank held the following ranks: Deputy Sheriff, Sergeant, and Lieutenant/ Area Commander. His duties included: patrol supervisor, dispatch supervisor, jail commander, honor guard commander, evidence supervisor, chief firearms instructor, use of force instructor, weapon retention instructor, defensive tactics instructor (Master Instructor Controlled FORCE), ATV safety instructor, firearms discharge review board member, fleet manager, and SWAT firearms instructor.
Frank attended two basic law enforcement academies and obtained a bachelor of arts in criminal justice. He became a firearms instructor in 1996 and was responsible for firearms training and qualification of departmental personnel. He participated in a wide range of firearms related training including: NRA Handgun / Shotgun Instructor, NRA Patrol Rifle Instructor, NRA Range Development and Management, MUST Shield Instructor, and numerous other firearms related trainings. Frank has an extensive background in firearms related training and experience.
Pete Italiano owner and operator of Universal Security and Training LLC. Located in Boise Idaho and Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Pete Italiano started his career in the Nuclear Security in 1985 for the Department of Energy as a Security Police officer, then in 1987 moving to the Special Response Team where he specialized in weapons, tactics, explosive breaching and self-defenses. He took a promotion to Special Response Team (SRT) Team leader at Argonne National laboratories. Pete then took a job as a lead trainer for the Department of Energy Idaho Training Division where he worked until was offered the Training Unit Manager. During his time with DOE, he was involved in several special programs that took him to Washington, D.C. as a Technical Survey Team Member (special assignment) responsible for conducting assessments of accountability documents, cost assessments, and vulnerability assessments for Russian Nuclear facilities and storage areas. Pete Italiano was also a member of an elite group of specially chosen and trained personnel to work for the US Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS) Presidential Protection Detail (PPD) for the President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai in where he was part of the inner Security Close Protection Detail known as the Karzai Protection detail (KPD).
Pete has spent the last ten year as a team leader and training supervisor for the US. Department of States Anti Terrorism Assistants Program (DS/ATAP) as Part of the MATT Mobile Assistants Training Team and in country programs as a subject matter experts (SME) in Advanced Crisis Response Team (ACRT), Crisis Response Team (CRT), Very Important Person Program (VIPP), Instructor Development Course (IDC) and Preventing Attacks on Soft Target (PAST). Pete has delivered courses for the Department of State DS/ATAP to various US and Host Nations (HN) law enforcement and military personnel in Pakistan, Nepal, Indonesia, Colombia, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Bangladesh, Mexico, Jordan , Brazil, Jamaica, Liberia, Mali and Senegal.
One of Pete’s job opportunities have been with Tom Dale and Associates; Security and Investigations were he worked for NBC Universal studios performing Executive Protection for principal actor (RR) in Cape Town S Africa.
Pete has also worked for Warner Brothers Entertainment performing high threat executive protections in Mexico City, Mexico for executive producer Adam Merms . Working for TDA also took Pete on a Multi mission disaster responds team after the Haitian earthquake of 2010. Missions included Family extraction from Haiti, Locate and Identify remains of high profile ex patriot, and continuing his mission for TDA doing Executive Protection (EP) for a High profile physician that included establishing and coordinating security policies and procedure at a Hospital in Porta Prince.
Mr. Italiano currently works as the Director of training for LPR overseeing Security contracts Conus and Oconus, for Police and military personnel.
Pete has also contracted for ESI Executive Security International (Bob Duggan) were he is the Director of training for the Personal Security Detail Program (PSD). Pete is sought after for his excellent teaching abilities along with his knowledge in the security.
